Dubai Health Authority DHA
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) oversees the administration and delivery of an integrated healthcare sector in Dubai, encompassing public and private facilities, as well as visitor and tourist services. DHA’s Purchasing and Contracts Department started project AI Twreed in August 2018, with the goal to bring greater efficiency and accuracy in its procurement processes, while saving labour and expense costs. The project involved developing and implementing robotics process automation (RPA) and artificial intelligence (AI) systems. By automating repetitive tasks including supplier registrations, renewals and validation, DHA reduced staff operations by 40% and reduced process handling by 19%, freeing staff up for more value-add tasks. Supplier satisfaction rose by 89% and it also improved compliance and reduced risk. Project AI Twreed was launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, at the 44th Arab Health Congress in January 2019. This project made DHA the first government body in UAE to incorporate AI into its purchasing and contracts processes.
The project clearly reflects the growing importance of technology. It demonstrates how AI will transform the healthcare sector in Dubai and it’s good to see the strategic alignment of procurement, not only with DHA strategy, but also with Dubai 2021 AI strategy.
