Transformation of Procurement Department within Abu Dhabi Airports

Abu Dhabi Airports Company

The £1.9bn Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC) expansion at Abu Dhabi Airport will accommodate 30 million annual passengers and procurement is playing a key role in ensuring this happens on time in December 2017. At Abu Dhabi Airports Company, which is managing five airports, including this expansion project, procurement cycle times have been more than halved by anticipating the organisation’s needs. An eSourcing system has made tendering activities 95% paperless. Business Intelligence automation helps measure the team’s performance against KPIs, saving consultancy spend and printing costs. To ensure engagement with suppliers early in the procurement process ADAC conducts a “prequalification” exercise to review suppliers’ resources, experience, capability and financial stability. Regular appraisals measure suppliers’ performance against contract milestones and/or performance indicators. Suppliers fallen short are given information to help boost their performance.

Judges’ comments: “Procurement is spearheading a multi-billion dollar expansion of state-of-the-art airport infrastructure. That is a great achievement of the team.”
