Less than a year after the group procurement function itself was established in June 2012, the team was leading the sourcing of sustainable materials to retrofit offices and branches. Desks, chairs and carpets are now 90% made of sustainable materials. An Oracle-based e-procurement system has been introduced, making procurement processes paper free by the end of 2013. Standardised printers throughout the bank have reduced printing costs and 62% of paper was recycled in 2014. In the same year the bank introduced an e-waste disposal policy where suppliers collected and, wherever possible, recycled electronic waste such as computers. IT, stationary and furniture purchasing has been consolidated with UAE suppliers and around 90% of total 2014 spend was made through these suppliers.
